The new GOP.gov is a nice-looking, well-developed site. Dig down to see information about each Republican representative. Not as sharp as the new Whitehouse.gov site, but I wouldn't expect that. (Interestingly, Michelle Obama's page on the Whitehouse site doesn't include a picture of her.)
Here are some other sites:
- House of Representatives (a mish-mash of styles).
- Speaker of the House (an impressive site for Nancy Pelosi).
- US Senate (could use an overhaul, but much better than the House site).
- Library of Congress (they need some consistency from section to section, design-wise).
The various departments all have their own website, most of which, I'm guessing, will be redone as the new agency heads take over. I browsed through them all. Most are well-done, with just a few exceptions.
- The Department of Education site, just ed.gov, is my favorite. Very attractive. Lots of white space.
- The State Department site is nice, too.
USA.gov will take you to the websites for all government agencies, but state and federal. Right now, most websites are information-based. It'll be interesting to see how they build Web 2.0 features in, with interaction and community tools. The Whitehouse site will, I'm sure, take the lead in this.
Career-wise, I've been hanging around and writing about and cheering on churches and pastors for the past 25 years as my denomination's Communications Director.
