There are thousands of blogs, which means you can spend all day surfing the blogosphere. I've been reading blogs ever since the fall of 2004. Here are some of the ones I find myself checking out regularly--some every day, some every week, some only when I think about it. Disclaimer: This list is subject to continuous revision (most recently on July 24, 2006).
Friends from My Corner of Christendom
The bishopBlog. Bishop Ron Ramsey (my boss) uses this to share "Tidbits of vision, instruction, experience, and admonition." I designed the blog, and I'm one of the five contributors.
Why Not?. Tim Hallman, my pastor at Anchor Community Church, writes this one.
Rick's (not so) Deep Thought. This is my brother's blog. He's funny.
Freakin' Missionary. Dave Datema is a United Brethren missionary with the type of mind I can appreciate. We also share a love for music.
Bemuseme. I've known Steve Gilbertson since 7th grade, when our families attended the UB church in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. We've always been great friends. He doesn't think like most people. He sees angles others don't, and raises questions with honesty and vulnerability.
Attention Span. Ed Gebert, a United Brethren minister just across the border in Ohio, shares his thoughts on this blog. He's quite prolific, and I enjoy reading his stuff.
Life on the River. By Mike Dennis, a United Brethren pastor in southern Michigan.
Religious Blogs
Out of Ur, a blog off of the Christianity Today site. They put up articles written by other people that tend to be quite provocative.
Keith Drury. I'm not sure you call this a blog. But Keith Drury writes a lot of stuff, and it's great. I devour his writings, which are full of wonderful insight.
Christus Victor Ministries, a blog by Greg Boyd, a megachurch pastor in Minneapolis. He stretches me.
Kem Meyer on Less Clutter & Noise. Kem Meyer is Communications Director at Granger Community Church in Granger, Ind. She's a fabulous communicator, and a real expert on local church communications. And she's very witty.
Tony Morgan. Tony is part of the senior management team at Granger Community Church. That must be a fun place to work.
Swerve. A blog on leadership, church health, and related subjects from Lifechurch.tv, a highly innovative church in Oklahoma City pastored by Craig Groeschel.
Monday Morning Insight. Miscellaneous interesting stuff from Todd Rhoades.
God's Politics, a blog by Jim Wallis and friends. Jim Wallis is the guru of the Sojourners community, a well-spoken "liberal" Christian who has the gall to be an advocate for the poor and for justice.
ThinkChristian. This one's fairly new to me, and I only stop by occasionally. My friend Jim Watkins is one of the eight contributors.
The Discipler. Michael Hines is a minister living in Arizona. He has written some wonderful stuff, like his "Thoughts on Smaller Churches" and the companion "Mega-churches and Me." Absolutely superb, those two posts.
Church Marketing Sucks. This has a lot of interesting stuff regarding church communications.
Secular Blogs
Swampland. This is the only political blog I follow closely. It's co-written by a team of crack Time Inc. reporters, including Joe Klein, Karen Tumulty, and Michael Sherer. Really interesting stuff.
Dilbert. This blog is brilliant fun. Scott Adams shows not only an incredible sense of humor (of the off-the-wall variety), but a heaping dose of intellect. This is a very popular blog, as the number of comments with each post (often hundreds) shows. I check in nearly every day.
Guy Kawasaki. This blog is actually called "Signum Sine Tinnitu," which I'm sure means something profound. But Guy Kawasaki, the original "Macintosh Evangelist," writes it. I've read two of Guy's books. He's tremendous, and never boring. This blog focuses on computer stuff. I stop in several times a week.
TechCrunch. This is a favorite for me. This site covers new and updated web-based products and services. I've discovered some neat things here.
Blog Maverick, by Mark Cuban, the owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. I love this guy.
On Deadline. A USA Today blog which spotlights some interesting things happening in the news, and provides links to various articles about it. I like this approach.
